That would work, I think. It's a tricky line to walk, because I don't want to erase canon m/f relationships or demonize canon women, because it's something that happens far too often in m/m fic. But in a case like Miguel and Tulio (aren't there still subtitles floating around where they call each other "darling?") I'd say yeah, go for it. (You could even write polyfic! :D)
